People think that Hijab—a headscarf named by Islam—is only worn by Muslim women. However, women from other faiths also wear it despite not being their duty to do as believers. Regardless of their faith, those women considerate a global warming causes, such as air pollution which impact their healthy skin, and a sexual attraction which attract sexual harassment. Those crucial problems commonly happen when women stay out of the house. It is therefore, women should wear hijab when they are outside.
According to Hayati Magazine (2013), wearing hijab protects women’s hair from the sun, wind, air, rain, and other forms of pollution. Pollution and sunburn are the causes which should be taken into more consideration. Regarding the pollution itself, dirt and grime—simply called as dust—are found. As Shyamli (2013) also says, it can make hair weak and more prone to damage. At the same time, the sunburn aggravates this condition: the scalp can be damaged. One of researches indicates that sustained ultraviolet radiation on an unprotected scalp can damage the skin cells in the scalp as well as the cells of the hair follicles. Moreover, Gilbert (2015) also argues that hair symbolize the beauty for women. It means that if women’s hair is damaged, their beauty is also damaged.
A further and equally important is wearing hijab protects women from sexual harassment since they commonly hide all parts of their body. Therefore, they do not attract other people’s attention easily. On the other hand, women not wearing hijab mostly get the opposite. It happens since they are likely to show their beauty to public and unfortunately, as a nature of men, to enjoy the beauty body part of women is natural. To illustrate, one of the causes on how rape cases increase over the years is a massive women still wears mini-dress, whether they are a student, teacher, and so forth. Many cases happen in public transportation, for example, when those women are going to return home in the night due to the chance existence.
Some people argue that hat—or the like—is also able to cover women’s hair. Yet, it does not protect as well as hijab does. When wearing a hat, the hair damaged from the sunburn or pollution is still possible since that equipment does not cover all of the head; whereas hijab covers all. On the other case, some may think that how women dress is not the matter on how sexual harassment happens. Yet, the matter is people’s dirty-minded about them—in other words, the first impression should be underlined. To illustrate, when women wear mine-dress, men’s first impression to them are likely to be their body is beautiful. It leads men’s sexual hormone increase and leads them into dirty-minded. After realizing the chance is exist, any men may do this kind of crime anytime.
For the sake of women’s safety, wearing hijab is one of highly recommended solutions when staying out of the house. It is because of covering their all head which protect the beauty symbol of women that is hair. Moreover, it also avoids sexual harassment since they have less sexual attraction from their appearance. However, it depends on the women themselves, whether they want to protect themselves or not, by doing that kind of simple thing of course.
